Gaming Grant provides new area
The absence of students from the school has allowed us to complete some substantial playground renewals. The Year 6/7 covered learning space has been completed. We are indebted to the Gambling Community Gaming Grant for the funds provided to our school to enable the construction of this facility. The recently completed area with concrete slabs covered by a gabled aluminium roof has provided our upper school students with a versatile learning space which will be used for:
Group activities in the areas such as drama, art, English, Mathematics and Japanese. Our Year 6 and 7 students occupy classrooms which have little space for movement and alternative activities around the desks and chairs in the room. This area provides a space adjoining the classrooms where students have open space to enable them to organise and learn with greater movement and versatility.
As well as an area for group learning experiences, the structure of the facility and the natural amphitheatre of the area, provides the students with a performance area for dance, drama and presentations.
The height of the facility enables the school to also use this facility for sport and in particular for demonstrations and one-on-one and small group competitions. This supports the school’s sunsafe policy, giving the students an area protected from harmful uva and uvb rays.
Lastly, the area is already a favourite lunchtime venue for the upper school students and they have taken a keen interest in maintaining the grounds and turf around it.
